The Jaguar brand is moving toward greener pastures, planning to rid its rides of gasoline and embrace all-electric performance. You can expect to see only electric luxury cars in the Jaguar lineup in the near future.
Drivers may soon find themselves spending less time at the pump and more time at designated electric vehicle (EV) charging stations.
But wait… how long does it take to charge an EV? Is charging my electric Jaguar I-PACE the same as refueling my gas tank?
We’re here to show you that the grass can be greener on the other side. Find out how easy charging your EV can be below!
Keeping it Green: The Basics on Electric Vehicles
EVs are cars that utilize a battery and an electric motor — sometimes two! — rather than relying on a traditional engine and gasoline for operation.
Like your smartphone, your electric vehicle needs to be charged in order to continue taking you where you need to go. Charging your EV can be quite simple. Below, we’ll discuss the different charging options that are available for EV drivers.
How Does an EV Charging Station Work for Your 2024 Jaguar I-PACE?
Even though you can say goodbye to gas stations as an EV owner, you’ll still need to keep your vehicle charged so it’s ready to go when you are. The three EV charging options are: Level 1, Level 2, and Direct-Current (DC) fast chargers.
Level 1
As the simplest (and slowest) charging option, Level 1 only requires a standard 120-volt outlet to charge an EV. According to the EPA, Level 1 chargers can provide about five miles per one hour of charging.
Level 2
Faster than Level 1, this type of charger can be used at home with a 240-volt outlet (Hint: take a look at your clothes dryer’s outlet). Level 2 chargers can also be found at public charging stations. According to the EPA, Level 2 chargers can provide about 25 miles per one hour of charging.
DC Fast Charger
This charging option is ideal for drivers in a hurry as it offers the fastest charging speed. DC Fast Chargers are available at public charging stations, allowing you to charge your vehicle as quickly as possible so you can hop back on your route promptly. According to the EPA, DC Fast Chargers can provide approximately 100-300 (or more) miles per 30 minutes of charging.
